Shelter Island is nestled between the North and South Forks and only accessed by ferry from either Greenport on the North Fork or North Haven on the South Fork. It's known for its natural beauty, hiking, biking, birdwatching and some of the most breathtaking kayaking in Suffolk County. The entire island is approximately 27 square miles but hosts its own community worth exploring any time of year.
