Stony Brook University Indoor Sports Complex

The sports complex is actually 2 separate buildings, the Pritchard Gym and the newer West Wing. The Pritchard Gym is one of the original buildings built on campus in the late 1960s when the campus moved to Stony Brook from its Oyster Bay location. The gymnasium is 20,000 square feet and has 3 regulation basketball courts that can be divided by a moveable wall into 2 separate rooms. The smaller part of the gym is equipped with drop down batting tunnels used by the baseball and softball teams during the winter months and inclement weather. The gym is primarily used now for physical education classes, recreation and team practices. The Stuart Goldstein Student-Athlete Development Center opened in June of 2006. The 6,000-square foot facility is located off the Pritchard Gymnasium adjacent to the Sports Complex atrium, and accommodates over 400 student-athletes in a space that features a state-of-the-art computer lab, a study hall/multipurpose function room, a career resource/library area and a private tutor room. The Center includes administrative offices for the academic advising staff.

Also in the confines of the Pritchard gym there is a 600 square foot dance studio equipped with hardwood floors and ballet bars. The room is used by physical education for classes and the recreation department uses it for multiple activities.

Opening in 1990, the West Wing was one of the biggest additions to the campus architect in many years. The Arena is 40,000 –square feet and houses 3 regulation basketball courts with the center hardwood floor serving as the main court for basketball and volleyball. The arena has a 177-meter rubber surface track surrounding the perimeter of the room. The arena is home to Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball and numerous trade shows, ceremonies and concerts throughout the year.

In addition to the main arena the West Wing added office space for Athletics Administration Staff as well as a new equipment room, training room and locker facilities.
