South Fork Natural History Museum & Nature Center

The South Fork Natural History Museum & Nature Center welcomes visitors of all ages to discover, explore, learn, and engage. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Explore the museum’s scientifically accurate galleries, where live and recreated habitat exhibits, floor-to-ceiling murals of forests, ponds, and ocean landscapes, a Marine Touch Tank with sea stars, crabs, urchins, and whelks, and terrariums and aquariums showcasing local wildlife, engaging the senses and bringing the outdoors inside. The magic continues outdoors with SOFO’s Native Pollinator Garden, Native Wildflower Garden, Iwanowski Family Educational Pond, Purple Martin nesting gourd site, and more. Visitors can enjoy nature walks through the 40-acre Vineyard Field Preserve, which borders the museum, and explore the Long Pond Greenbelt’s six-mile trail system, an interconnected landscape of ponds, woods, and wetlands rich with rare plants, animals, and ecological communities. The museum inspires families to become informed, responsible stewards of our planet today and for future generations.
