Long Island Downtowns: Patchogue
Patchogue has since been revitalized into a lively downtown, with restaurants, bars, boutique shops and cultural attractions lining the storefronts. Spend the weekend exploring Main Street, the arts scene and beyond in this walkable downtown. The best part? It’s located on Long Island’s south shore, and is accessible by boat with nearby marinas.
We rounded up some top spots for your Patchogue itinerary:
Morning:
Brunch & Shop
Start your day with a hearty brunch from Tap Room Patchogue, served every Saturday and Sunday from 11AM-2PM. Order the classic American Breakfast, or opt for some of the more creative options, like the Loaded Tap Stack, or maybe the Maple Bacon Donut Bites. Tap Room has outdoor dining in the warmer months, an upstairs balcony, mimosa flights and 20 rotating beers on tap.
Shop on Main Street for gifts, souvenirs, necessities and everything in between. Patchogue offers clothing, vintage items/antiques, stationary, jewelry, crafts, homeware and more. A local favorite is The Spice & Tea Exchange: Patchogue, where you can expect everything from infused honeys to artisan extra virgin olive oil to proprietary spice blends and loose-leaf teas.
Afternoon:
Creative Art, Local Brews, & Fresh Oysters
Next, let your artsy side come out. Patchogue has many murals, perfect for Instagrammable moments, and art installations. The Roe Alley Murals start at the Patchogue Medford Library in the alley, and wrap around the backs of the shops and stores. The MoCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) is curated by the Patchogue Arts Council and has rotating exhibits. The art mediums vary piece by piece–fabric, paint, pencil, watercolor, print–but the fascination stays the same! Plus, there is a theater on Main Street, with plays, musicals and other events.
Take a seat and decompress at Blue Point Brewery, to have freshly brewed beer. Attached to the brewery is the Brewpub where they offer Blue Point’s classic portfolio (try the Toasted Lager), seasonal beers, and exclusive brews from the innovation room, only available at the pub. The kitchen menu includes freshly shucked oysters from the Great South Bay, bar food, and vegan/vegetarian-friendly options. Don’t drink beer but still want to hang out? No problem. Blue Point offers The Subtle Tea products, specialty cocktails, and more. Plus, the brewery is dog and family-friendly, everyone is welcome!
Evening:
Savor the Sound
Patchogue’s energy doesn’t fade as the sun goes down. In fact, the fun kicks into high gear. A quick walk down Main Street in the evening is usually surrounded by the sounds of live bands, acoustic guitarists, and live DJs pouring out of restaurants.
For dinner with authentic Mexican flavors and possible mariachi, eat at Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine. The extensive menu features tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, larger entrees and more. They have 12 different margaritas, a specialty cocktail list, and Patchogue’s largest selection of tequila and mezcal.
Cap your night with a taste of nightlife and a cocktail at one of Patchogue’s lively bars.
While You’re in Town:
If you have extra time (or you aren’t ready to head home yet) these local gems are well worth the detour off Main Street. Patchogue has a few surprises up its sleeve.
Corey Beach– Next door in Blue Point, this small, family-friendly beach has calm water, a playground, concession stand and lifeguard protection in-season.
Connetquot River State Park Preserve– Nature lovers can wander miles of scenic trails, fish in freshwater rivers, or spot wildlife in this historic preserve.
Shorefront Park– Home of the annual Great South Bay Music Festival, this waterfront park features a breezy walking path, playground, and views of the bay.
Swan River Nature Preserve– Perfect spot for a picnic or peaceful walk. Expect sightings of swans and turtles.
Getting There:
While driving offers flexibility, parking in Downtown Patchogue can be limited during peak hours and weekends. Public transportation via the Long Island Rail Road to Patchogue Station on the Montauk line makes it easy to visit without a car. Plus, ride share options (Uber/Lyft) and local taxis can help you get around.
Also, the ferry service in Patchogue offers two Fire Island destinations: Davis Park or Watch Hill.
