West Sayville Golf Course
Details
Suffolk County operates four 18-hole municipal golf courses that all play along or near Long Island’s scenic waterways. One of them, West Sayville Golf Course, is laid out over a former estate just steps away from Great South Bay.
Golfers at West Sayville won’t battle the bay directly, but they will often face interior ponds and creeks – not to mention the stiff Atlantic gusts – as they make their way around this flat, mostly forgiving course. The par-3 eighth plays over a water hazard, and ahead at #11, another pond serves as a diagonal hazard off the tee. There is a driving range on site, so players should be prepared for these challenging shots.
West Sayville is also home to the Long Island Maritime Museum, and the original Meadow Edge estate house still stands on site.
