The Culper Spy Ring is credited by General George Washington as being a leading factor in turning the tide of the American Revolution. Historic sites on Long Island take you back to the days when much of Long Island’s North Shore was under British military occupation. A group of local patriots, determined to assist George Washington win the American Revolution, formed the Culper Spy Ring as a result. These men and women risked their lives working undercover and helped General George Washington win the war. Learn more about some of the iconic locations of famous battles and headquarters below.
Setauket/Three Village

Patriots Rock
Once a part of the Setauket Village Green, this historic rock marks the site for the Battle of Setauket, fought on August 22, 1777. Patriot forces used it as their mount when attacking British soldiers, and it continues to serve as a symbol of community and strength.
Caroline Church
This Episcopal church served as a Loyalist sanctuary during the American Revolution and even was the site of a brief battle on August 22, 1777.
