The Angler Experience

Day 1. Jones Beach and Long Beach – Great for fish or general beach entertainment, Jones Beach features a long boardwalk, performance venues, vendors, a fishing station and more. Field 10 fishing station offers a pier to stand on, but other fields are also open to use. Then head to Long Beach where you’ll find a charter/party fleet for sport fishing, offering early morning bass runs and mid to full day charters. Come with a tent or a trailer if you intend on being outdoorsy and let the waves lull you to sleep at the nearby campsites at Lido Beach.

Day 2. Captree – Stop by Captree State Park where you can fish off the pier, charter a boat or head down the Robert Moses Causeway and pick a spot with an ocean view for some surf casting. This is one of the top Suffolk County fishing spots and is a hotbed of fishing activities. Overnight on the South Shore.

Day 3. Shinnecock Inlet – The inlet features a tight channel at the Shinnecock East County Park, connecting Shinnecock Bay to the Atlantic Ocean. The fall is a great time for fishing here. This area is known for its large bass, blackfish, bluefish, false albacore, Spanish mackerel. Overnight in the Hamptons.

Day 4. Montauk Point – The end of Long Island, great for surf casting from the rocky path behind the lighthouse or out among the waves in waders. The town holds many fishing competitions including an annual shark tournament for those looking for a test of skill. A trip through Montauk is a truly scenic experience, especially when the summer rush has ended and we are into fall. Camp out at Hither Hills for a short walk to the shore, or stay at an ocean view Montauk motel or inn.

Day 5. Laurel Lake –Laurel Lake is fed by the Peconic River and is an incredibly serene area. You can fish around the perimeter or rent a small boat, but be ready to carry it as the lake is only accessible by foot. This spot is great for early morning and dusk fishing. The lake is in the heart of Long Island’s famous wine and farm country. Later in the day head out to Orient Point where you’ll find fishing charters and surf casting. You’re only 20 minutes from Greenport, where you can find accommodations.
