Long Island small businesses are gearing up for Small Business Saturday two days after Thanksgiving. Created by American Express in 2010, this event gives small businesses a fighting chance against retailer-made holidays, such as Black Friday for big-box retailers and Cyber Monday for online retailers. Many Long Island small businesses, from retail stores to restaurants, will offer discounts, host events and hand out goodies to attract shoppers. This is the perfect time to get out and show support for your local businesses. Click here

The tradition is back this year on Saturday, November 26 and Sunday, November 27 as visitors to Old Bethpage Village, the re-created mid-19th Century village, will be able to enjoy the sights and aromas of an old-fashioned Thanksgiving. They will offer decorated pumpkin pies baked in a beehive oven, and turkey roasted over an open fire. Experience how Americans celebrated and prepared a Thanksgiving feast in 1863. There will be cooking and baking demonstrations throughout the day showing historic techniques. In addition, each afternoon, Traditional Fiddle music will be played, and children’s stories will be read several times each day. Click here
