How to Throw a Long Island Themed Triple Crown Party

May 24, 2018

Long Island is home to all sorts of famous, but one of the Island’s most prestigious claims to fame is as the home of The Belmont Stakes. Celebrating the 150th Running of The Belmont Stakes in 2018 just got even more exciting with Justify winning The Kentucky Derby and The Preakness and now vying for a Triple Crown win on June 9th. If you can’t make it to Long Island to experience Belmont Park in person, you can still throw a Long Island-style Triple Crown Party so memorable your guests will forget they aren’t actually there. Here’s how:

Pick Your Theme: The Gold Coast Mansions of Long Island define the opulent party lifestyle of the Roaring 20’s. It’s even told they were the inspiration behind F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Look no further, your party theme is here. Perfect for a super classy Triple Crown Party, fancy hats included!

Pick Your Music: If there is one thing Long Islander’s cherish, its Billy Joel. The lifelong Island resident has moved millions with his music and these days you can catch him casually strolling the streets in Oyster Bay, East Hampton or Greenport. Que up that Triple Crown playlist and make sure The Piano Man gets his due airtime.

Pick Your Food: It should come as no surprise that Long Island is home to some of the best locally sourced seafood in the country. Your Triple Crown Party should be no different. We recommend serving bite-sized lobster rolls, Long Island oysters and if you’re feeling adventurous, clam chowder!

Pick Your Drinks: A must serve is the official drink of The Belmont Stakes, the Belmont Jewel, which consists of bourbon shaken with pomegranate and lemonade. Obviously, you should also have the makings for Long Island Iced Teas at the ready and for those who need something a little lighter, go with a local rosé from Long Island’s Wine Country. A popular option is Summer in a Bottle from Wölffer Estate Vineyard.

Time to start practicing your best New York accent, “yous guys” are ready to throw a Triple Crown party for the history books!
