Fans of the Northport eatery will be happy to hear the restaurant has settled beautifully into its second location in Stony Brook Village.
American comfort food has found its way to Stony Brook. Known in Northport for many years, Sweet Mama’s recently opened a new location.
“What isn’t there to love about Stony Brook?” said Marios Patatinis, who owns the Sweet Mama’s brand— which offers diners American comfort food with a southern spin—with his wife, Marg. “My family and I live in Three Village, so I’ve always wanted to be more involved with the community. Once I heard of the location availability, I knew it had to happen.”
Patatinis took over the spot, which formerly housed Latitude 121 Coastal Grill, nestled in Stony Brook Village Center, on November 11, 2017. A week later, Sweet Mama’s was operating. While there are less seats in the new location than in the Northport original, the restaurant benefits from being situated in a community of boutique shops.

New Location, Who Dis?
“Being part of a walking location and small mall is very helpful,” said Patatinis. “All the tenants work together, and the landlord supports the whole mall with advertising, social media and continuous family activities.”
Everything on the Sweet Mama’s menu is made from scratch. “We are trying to bring back the good ol’ eating days, a friendly family place where families can enjoy spending time together while eating a good comfort meal,” Patatinis said. Bestsellers include Chicken Fried Steak, Spicy Avocado Benny and Funky Money French Toast. Also, Sweet Mama’s serves breakfast all day.

In a way, customers helped developed the menu—which is broken up into Mama’s Favorite Dishes, Omelettes, Benedicts, Griddle Specialties, Skillets and Breakfast Wraps, More Tasty Tidbits, Burgers and Grilled Chicken, Sandiches, Paninis, Grilled Wraps, Garden Fresh Salad Creations and Appetizers. “We have been running various specials over the year, which helped us identify what our customers like,” he said. There’s also the children’s menu. Children can choose between breakfast or lunch/dinner.
Indulge Your Sweet Tooth at the Sweet Mama’s Ice Cream Parlor
The whole Sweet Mama’s dining experience is identical to the brand’s location in Northport. Throughout the restaurant, there’s a retro vibe with a 1950s-inspired yellow, blue and white color scheme. On display are kitchen accessories, memorabilia and colorful advertising posters from the decade. Patatinis’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law helped bring the new location together.
At the Stony Brook location, there’s also an ice cream parlor inside and a deck outside, expected to open this summer. Sweet Mama’s ultimately wants to treat its customers like family by offering a little something on its menu for everyone. At the end of the day, the Sweet Mama’s brand aims to cook its customers delicious homestyle choices for breakfast lunch and dinner.
“From once you enter the restaurant, you feel at home,” said Patatinis. “Our team treats you like you are one of their family members. The food—no matter what you order off of the menu—will satisfy you to the fullest. It’s more than just comfort food; its Sweet Mama’s house—and let’s not forget, who doesn’t like all you can drink coffee?”
