While in town for the Marathon and Half-Marathon, we hope you will take advantage of all Suffolk County has to offer and we’re bringing the best of Suffolk straight to you. The FreedomFest Taste of Long Island Festival will begin at 9:00am, shortly before our first Half Marathoners will finish, and will take place right in the heart of downtown Patchogue. The event will feature live musical entertainment and will highlight our local craft breweries, award winning wines, and local food and produce. Free tastings will be given to all race participants.
Training For The Big Day
Why not train in one of Long Island’s scenic parks? In addition to the scheduled Training Runs to help you get ready as you practice along with fellow runners, you can find your own park to prepare. Long Island has dozens of gorgeous parks and preserves with flat and hilly paths. You can run along the beach, or find a shaded trail high along a wooded bluff. Explore our local parks and makes sure you’re in the best shape possible for the Big Day!
Plan to Bring Your Friends and Family
Bring the whole family. The Suffolk County FreedomFest Marathon and Half Marathon in Support of Our Veterans offers something for everyone. We encourage spectators to join in the fun by attending the downtown festivals that will be held right along the race route. Featuring live music and entertainment, food, and drink, each downtown will offer their own unique marathon celebration. And the best part is, with easy access to the Long Island Railroad and complimentary shuttle service being provided by our sponsoring partner Suffolk Transportation, Inc., you can experience them all and still make it back to Heckscher State Park in time to see your loved ones finish and take part in the Taste of Long Island Festival. You can find great Hotel Rates, and other Things to Do and Events if you want to extend your visit to beautiful Long Island.
Working Out the Kinks
You need to be loose for this.. real loose. And if past experience is any lesson, you might need a great spa to relax in when it’s all said and done. Why not plan a pre- or post-race stay at one of Long Island’s many spa hotels. You’ll find the Inn and Spa at East Wind, located in Long Island Wine Country, has everything from invigorating sea mud wraps to Arom-assage and Reike to balance the body’s energy to help promote deep relaxation. Or, Gurney’s Inn and Seawater Spa Resort in Montauk has an acclaimed spa renowned for its healing treatments and ocean-fed seawater pool, the only pool of its kind in North America. Plan a relaxing stay at one of Long Island full service hotels and resorts.
Want to keep the adrenaline going after the big race. You’ll find lots of opportunities for adventure on Long Island. Visit the Long Island Adventure park, where you’ll find a tree top course and zip-lining fun. You can still rent a kayak before the winter chill starts to set in or take a paddle boarding lesson. Why not take a bike tour through wine country or a brew tour on a Brew Cycle. Then head over to Pole Position raceway for the latest in high-performance, all-electric, emission-free indoor karts capable of speeds of 45 MPH.
You Might Need a Drink After This
We know it’s tough. And we know you train hard. Long Island offers lots of ways to relax and unwind after the race. You could plan a Wine Country getaway for a couple days, relax in a sweet B&B, enjoy the catch-of-the-day at a local seafood shack, visit our farm stands for local produce and hand-made treats, shop our small villages, and sample some local wines at over three dozen wineries. (Always drink responsibly). Or if you prefer local brews and spirits, you can create your own adventure along the Long Island Craft Beverage Trail.
