Signature Event: 101st PGA Championship

April 25, 2019

Golf fever has swept over Long Island with the 101st PGA Championship heading to Bethpage Black this May. We admit that even we’re fangirling over the Wanamaker Trophy, so we’ve taken it upon ourselves to give you the ultimate insider’s guide on this exciting signature event headed to our shores. Even more exciting, the 2019 PGA Championship will set the stage for what is poised to be the sporting event of the decade- the 2024 Ryder Cup.

Here’s What’s Happening on the Course During the PGA Championship

Taste of NY

Be sure to keep an eye out at Hole 14 at Bethpage Black for the Taste of NY concession stand. Here, you’ll be able to find locally sourced menu items, craft brews, and local wine.

Go All Out on the Green

If you’re big into golf, you might want to consider going all out at this year’s PGA and investing in the PGA’s Empire Club. It’s a pretty penny, but $1,800 will get you two days with an open bar for six hours, breakfast, lunch, a snack and dessert. Not to mention clean private restrooms, which is a resource that is not to be overlooked. This club membership will have you posted right near the 18th hole, so you can get the best view of the best golfers

Here’s What’s Going on Off the Course

Cradle of Aviation

Just a 20-minute drive from the Black Course is Long Island’s Air and Space Museum, the Cradle of Aviation. This museum features vintage air crafts, interactive exhibits and even an IMAX theater. This year marks 50 years since the launch of the Apollo Lunar Modules that successfully landed twelve men on the moon between 1969-1972. Only three Lunar Modules built by Grumman are left on this planet, and one happens to be right here at the Cradle of Aviation! Take the twenty-minute trip to see a slice of history.

“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”N. Armstrong. . We didnt expect to spend longer than an hour instead we spent 5 hours! The @cradleofaviation is an amazing hidden gem in NYC. With its compact and informative exhibits that included hands on activities, this is a must see. The planetarium show was amazing as well. . . Keep Up With the Kids

If you’re looking for something to do with the kids, check out the Long Island Children’s Museum, located 18 minutes away from the course. This museum offers hands-on exhibits for children of all ages, a live theater and even family workshops.

Detour Through LI Downtowns

There are quite a few downtowns on Long Island that offer a great, walkable nightlife. Those closest to Bethpage Black include Huntington, Farmingdale, Babylon and Massapequa. Farmingdale’s main street offers spots to hang such as Vespa Italian Kitchen & Bar and That Meetball Place, The Nutty Irishman and Library Café. Huntington is a little quainter with adorable mom and pop shops and restaurants like Vauxhall, Little Vincent’s Pizzeria, Prime and Besito. The walkability of these towns allows you to bounce from restaurant to bar to check out all of the coolest spots.
