What’s New on Long Island in 2020

The Return of the Roaring ‘20s, New Hotels, Notable Milestone and More

LONG ISLAND, NY (January 14, 2020) – The highly anticipated Roaring 20’s have returned to Long Island’s famed Gold Coast, the original epicenter of the Gastby-esque gilded age. 2020 is the year to explore the inspiration for F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby novel, with an array of majestic mansions to explore, stay and dine. Deemed as “New York City’s Beachfront Backyard”, Long Island comes to life this year through its gilded past, lavish restaurant and hotel openings and signature events that attracts visitors from around the globe.

The Return of Gatsby: With over 13 mansions open to the public, Long Island’s Gold Coast provides the perfect spot to unwind including sprawling gardens perfect for a romantic picnic or Instagram-worthy balconies to recreate your favorite Taylor Swift-inspired picture.  OHEKA CASTLE and The Glen Cove Mansion provide guests with the opportunity to stay overnight year-round. While Planting Fields Arboretum, Old Westbury Gardens and The Vanderbilt Mansion transport visitors back in time with historic mansion tours that allow you to explore both the gardens and Gatsby-style homes of New York’s elite.

New Openings and Renovations: Long Island’s historic Glen Cove Mansion will be opening a new fine dining restaurant named Opus in early 2020. The restaurant will serve traditional Piedmontese cuisine by Michelin-starred Chef Massimiliano Musso. Guests will indulge in the riches of this Gold Coast estate with stylish décor aspects that transport you back to the 1920s.

Montauk’s newest hotel, The Marram, is a must-stay destination for guests on the hunt for a trendy getaway. The 96-room hotel 2019 boasts décor elements such as a minimalist desert color palette and weathered cedar buildings. Apres-beach lovers will swoon over the hotel’s peaceful culture centered around daily yoga, guided nature walks, surf lessons, and more.

The Hamptons’ historic Canoe Place Inn is officially slated to reopen in Spring 2020.  The restoration of this iconic Long Island Inn, which dates back to the 1600s, will include a 20-room boutique hotel with top-notch amenities, waterviews a restaurant and 350-seat catering hall. In addition, the development will also include 37 townhomes called “The Hampton Boathouses”.

Notable Milestones: The Long Island Aquarium remains one of Long Island’s top family friendly attractions year-round. 2020 marks the aquarium’s 20th anniversary with exciting new indoor and outdoor exhibits to explore. Guests are encouraged to try 20 experiential adventures including the penguin encounter, shark dive, tour boat, snorkel and animal encounters. Warm up this winter are the Garden of Butterflies and Bugs & Birds exhibit.

Long Island’s Pride on the Beach is celebrating 30 years this June. The event attracts over 30,000 people from across the globe featuring multiple events including the annual Pride Parade, the Pride Pet Parade, live concert series, and more.
