HAUPPAUGE, NY- (May 26, 2016)- One of Long Island’s amazing beaches has been recognized again on the annual list of ‘Top Ten Beaches in America,” as named by Dr. Beach (AKA Dr. Stephen Leatherman).
Coopers Beach in Southampton places eighth in the 2016 Top Ten list.
In his description of Coopers Beach, Dr. Leatherman said: “Coopers Beach is located on the south shore of Long Island, New York, shielded from the cold Labrador currents, in the beautiful village of Southampton. As the first “Gold Coast” in the country, Coopers Beach is hundreds of yards wide, made of grainy white quartz sand. The beach is backed by large sand dunes covered by American beach grass, interspersed with large and extravagant mansions. Some of the best beach access in the Hamptons exists on Coopers Beach.”
Visitors can enjoy white sandy shores with the backdrop of nature and nearby historic villages and mansions. The beach has full facilities including concession, bathhouse and umbrella rentals. Parking fee applies.
Dr. Beach, a PH.D Coastal Scientist with over 30 years experience studying beach health and safety, has been compiling his annual listing of top ten beaches in America since 1991. He takes into consideration 50 criteria when evaluating beaches, including water and sand quality, waves, presence of wildlife, noise, intensity of use, views and vistas, absence of rubble, facilities and amenities, and ‘non-urbanism.’ View his criteria: www.drbeach.org/50criteria.htm
Considering Long Island’s beaches compete with Florida, the Carolinas and Hawaii, having a place on the list is quite an honor. In fact, Coopers Beach was named Number One on the list in 2010 and another Long Island beach, Main Beach in East Hampton, was the top beach in 2013.
Coopers Beach is the primary beach in the Village of Southampton in the world-famous Hamptons region of Long Island. The area is known for its quaint villages, miles of farmland, wineries, art, history, fine dining and lodging. The top beach is located at 268 Meadow Lane near the intersection with Coopers Neck Lane.
It is just one of the many beautiful beaches along Long Island’s 100 miles of shoreline. Find out more about Long Island’s beaches at: www.discoverlongisland.com/beaches
