Discover Long Island Launches First Ever Off-Season Promotional Campaign

LONG ISLAND, NY (December 4, 2017) –  Discover Long Island is launching its first ever off-season campaign encouraging locals and visitors from key markets to explore the region’s winter offerings highlighting off-season pricing, holiday attractions, family-friendly activities and romantic escapes.

The multi-faceted campaign reinforces the idea of a ‘winter staycation’ to the local market, further enhancing revenue for the region’s economy. The campaign entitled ‘Tis the Season to Discover Long Island’ kicks off on December 4, 2017 reaching an audience of over 5 million viewers across local, regional and national markets via television, radio, social and digital platforms.

“Promoting Long Island as a year-round destination for both visitors and locals is an essential component in our destination’s marketing strategy,” said Kristen Jarnagin, President & CEO of Discover Long Island. “More than nine million visitors come from across the globe each year to experience what we have in our own backyard. Winter is the perfect time of year for Long Islanders and visitors in regional drive markets to get out and explore their home town with less crowds and an affordable edge.”

Tourism is a 5.6 billion industry on Long Island that supports more than 100,000 local jobs and generates more than $700 million in state and local tax revenue. This off-season campaign, a first of its kind for the region, promotes Long Island as a year-round destination extending the concept of a peak season to incorporate winter incentives that appeal to the local and drive markets.

“The significance of this campaign is immeasurable,” said Paul Monte, Chairman of Discover Long Island and Senior Advisor at Gurney’s Montauk. “Educating Long Islanders on the experiences that are available in their own backyard helps to further sustain the livelihood of our local employees and our growing economy from those who know it best.”
