The Suffolk County Department of Parks has one of the most extensive park systems in the country. With over 42,000 acres of parkland from Montauk in the east to Huntington in the west, there is something for everyone! Long Island is noted for its beaches and Suffolk County Parks has some of the finest beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, including Smith Point Beach on Fire Island, and Cupsogue Beach in the village of Westhampton Dunes. If fishing is your leisure time pursuit, you can visit parks such as Shinnecock East or Cedar Point for saltwater opportunities, or Southaven or Sears Bellows Parks for freshwater fishing. If golf is your cup of “tee”, grab your clubs and head to Bergen Point, Timber Point or the West Sayville Country Clubs, on the South Shore of Long Island, overlooking the Great South Bay or to Indian Island Country Club on the picturesque Peconic River in eastern Long Island.
