More and more every year, the harbor seals make their way into the cool, protected waters all along Long Island’s south shore. With no fear of predators, they are free to find mates and give birth to pups. Once the pups are large enough to travel, usually by the end of April, the seals start their migration back North for the Summer months. We offer 2 hour Seal Watching/Wildlife Tours on weekends throughout October, November, March & April. We can conduct private Seal Watching Tours 7 days a week during those months.
During the tours, you will will learn about our bays and marshes along with the vibrant wildlife in and around our waterways. We even have a working Baymens crab pot that we retrieve to show the scouts how Bay men make a living from our waters. We also go over effect of pollution and erosion around our salt marshes. We hand out sheets with pictures of birds that are indigenous to our area so that you can check them off as they see them. To top it off, we get to see the Seals that migrate into our area throughout the Fall and stay through April every year.
We offer these tours in October, November, March & April. For your convenience, you can reserve on-line at: www.freeportwatertaxi.com If you have any questions, please feel free to call us anytime, 516-521-7744
