Autin Wright, head of the department of Patination and Paint at Seward Johnson’s studio in New Jersey, will give a demonstration and talk about how the surface treatments of the sculptures impact their presence. The presentation will include a “cold patina” process using simple chemistries to illustrate how metals react to create coloration. Mr. Wright, a sculptor himself, will also explain the history of patination and describe the various technologies and styles that have been developed over the five decades of Seward Johnson’s artistry, including this year’s new additions and explorations of technique on view at the Old Westbury exhibition.
