What to Eat at Jones Beach This Summer

May 23, 2018

Edible Long Island, a media company telling the story of how the Island eats and drinks, is a great source whether you’re looking for a great breakfast spot, the best lobster roll and everything in between. This week, we highlight new dining options at Jones Beach this summer.

It’s going to be a delicious beach season.

It’s not really summer until you’ve been to Jones Beach. For more than 80 years, the state park has been a destination for Long Island locals. And between the sun, the salt air and the water there’s no way to spend a day at the beach without eating.

International dining firm Centerplate, took over the dining options at Jones Beach’s food venues in 2016, modernizing dining options and adding many local options. Though Centerplate is now entering its third year of managing the food options at Jones Beach there are plenty of new additions for the 2018 season. Here’s what we can’t wait to eat this year.

Jones Beach Food + Drink Gets More Local

Centerplate has made a big push in the past few years to source ingredients from New York producers and you should expect to see that trend continue this year. This year Centerplate is partnering up with Mr. Softee Soft Serve Ice Cream to supply the ice cream at West Bath House, Central Mall, Field Six, and they’ll also be offering softer serve shakes.

They’re also introducing Taste NY approved coffee from Yonkers-based Double Barrel Coffee Roasters, which will offer hot and iced coffee at all locations. And with, Birch Lane Wine, Blue Point Brewery, Montauk, Fire Island, Coney Island serving up New York state wines and beers there’s no need to sneak any beverages into the park.

New Eats at Jones Beach

One word. Pizza.

“When I think New York I think pizza and bagels,” said Jones Beach GM Wayne Dupree, who is spending his first summer at Jones Beach.

Look for regular cheese, sausage and a pepperoni available by the slice or a whole pie at the West Bath House and the Central Mall Concession stand.

Sticking with the New York theme Centerplate is also introducing a sausage, peppers and onions sandwich.

New Places to Eat

Look for a couple of new places to eat this year at Jones Beach. The Boardwalk Cafe is opening in a new building adjacent to the Central Mall Concession. The quick-service cafe will dish out Taste NY products, grass-fed burgers, tacos and rice bowls. Yum!

Beach days here we come.
