Spring Fests Bring A Reason To Celebrate On Long Island

March 27, 2015

Everyone here on Long Island has been waiting patiently in the cold, but we’re happy to finally welcome the spring season!  Hopefully the snow avoids us from here, at least for another eight months or so.  We’re ready to venture out and see what this season has in store.  Need to know what is going on, when? is one of the best resources around with a well-kept schedule of local happenings.  Here are a few ideas to help you through the whole season!

Fairs, festivals and other community celebrations become far more commonplace during the spring and continuing in to the summer.  This year, come the second weekend of April, the fair circuit kicks off with the Manhasset Spring Festival from April 11th-12th (See Here).  The next weekend brings the Rockville Centre Spring Festival (See Here) from April 18th-19th, followed by the West Hempstead Street Fair (See Here) on the 26th and the Great Neck Spring Festival (See Here) on May 3rd.  There is also, in case you missed making dinner reservations,  the Baldwin Mother’s Day Weekend Festival (See Here) on the weekend of May 9th-10th. These fairs by Showtiques have reliably brought family entertainment to Long Island for years, with a variety of events that any individual is free to take part in.

Something else to keep in mind: Long Island Spring Restaurant Week takes place from April 26th to May 3rd.  Restaurants from across the island will be participating in this bi-annual event, presenting selections of 3 course price-fixed dinners at an affordable price point of $27.95 per person.  April and May mark the beginning of fishing season for a number of delectable species; keep that in mind if you are looking to order something extra fresh! Visit this website for a full listing of participating venues:

May 3rd lines up more than the one spring festival. Hofstra is set to hold its 32nd annual Dutch Spring Music Festival (See Here) on that day as well with live entertainment, activities for the kids and local vendors.  Additionally there is the Huntington Tulip Festival (See Here), an annual event in its 15th year, held in the beautiful Heckscher State Park.  There’s no better time than the spring to catch a glimpse of mother nature hard at work and our state, county and federal parks are a great place to start.

The Belmont Stakes have always been a massive draw to Long Island in the springtime, but this year is shaping up to be far more. For the first time the event has been expanded to a three-day festival, from June 4th to the 6th,  featuring an exciting outdoor program lineup.  The Stakes have never been just another race, so you wouldn’t want to miss what the folks at the NYRA have in store for the new and improved festival.  Make sure to pick up your tickets early!  (See Here)

As we get closer to the sweet summertime the festivals and fairs keep on coming!  The Mattituck Strawberry Festival (See Here) takes place from June 12th-14th, right when the strawberry crop is reaching its peak.  During the same weekend is the Green Fest at Port Jefferson (See Here), happening on Saturday June 13th, held to promote the protection of our planet with Eco-environmental exhibitors & vendors.  Finally June 20th-21st, our final weekend of spring, signs the season off with a bang featuring The Pirate Festival & Classic Boat Show at the Long Island Maritime Museum (See Here), the Heckscher Outdoor Festival at Heckscher State Park (See Here), and the Seaford Summer Festival surrounding the Seaford Train Station (See Here).

Even with all this information packed in one place, there is still plenty happening that we missed!  These are only the fairs and festivals of the season. For more, go to the Long Island CVB  Calendar of Events where you can customize a search to find something that suits your needs.   Let’s shake off those winter woes and step in to spring!
