Edible Long Island, a media company telling the story of how the Island eats and drinks, is a great source whether you’re looking for a great breakfast spot, the best lobster roll and everything in between. This week, we highlight wine festivals this fall.
Toast to the fruits of our local winemakers’ labor.
The sun has set on summer, but viewing life through rosé-tinted-glasses is seasonless, even if the grape variety is traditionally reserved for warmer weather. And this fall, vineyards and venues from the North Fork to New York City are giving us reason to celebrate all things red, white and rosé with Long Island wines. Raise a glass—and perhaps stomp a grape or two—at these 2018 New York wine festivals.
Where: Martha Clara, Riverhead
When: Sunday, September 9, 1:00-5:00 p.m.
Beach days may be over, but this popular North Fork winery is offering people a chance to get their feet wet at a grape stomp party. Back for its ninth year, despite the vineyard’s change in ownership from the Entenmann family to Mexican wine producer Rivero-González this spring, this lively event allows guests to feel the grape skin between their toes while listening to live music. Lombardi’s Love Lane Market will be serving edibles, and there will be complimentary bicycle rentals for those up for a ride around the farm. Go.
Harvest in the Square
Where: North Plaza – Union Square Park
When: Thursday, September 20, 6:00 p.m. (VIP), 7:00 p.m. (General Admission)
Lenz Winery and Bedell Cellars will represent Long Island at the 23rd annual Harvest in the Square. Their wines can be paired with food tastings prepared with fresh produce from Union Square Greenmarket. Clink glasses with pride — proceeds from the event support local charities and ongoing efforts for district improvements such as beautification. Go.

Wölffer Estate Vineyard Annual Harvest Party
Where: Wölffer Estate Vineyard, Sagaponack
When: Saturday, October 6, 12:00-4:00 p.m.
This annual event is extra special this year, as Wölffer Estate is toasting to its 30th anniversary. Expect new surprises in honor of the celebration to go along with old favorites, like a bountiful lunch, tastings of Wölffer wines and ciders, music, dancing and family-friendly activities. The dry red cider is the new beverage on the block. Casual and approachable, the cider has aromatic notes of raspberry, black currant and blackberry. It’s a perfect transitional drink and plays well with soft cheeses, s’mores and Asian and Mexican dishes. Information has not been officially posted, but it will be available on the vineyard’s website when it has. Bookmark it.
