Long Islanders have quite a few things to be proud of, whether it’s talking about our famed beaches or award-winning vineyards, we don’t like to pass up an opportunity to boast our hometown pride. But when it comes to the revered BEC (Bacon, Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich), well not only does every local have a personal favorite spot, but we know our breakfast sandwiches can’t be beat- it’s a fact. So, if you want to have a truly authentic LI experience, you need to make this a must morning activity. Try one or two (no judgement here) and be sure to tag @discoverlongisland to let us know your favorite mix-up.
According to the locals, these are some of their favorites from around the island (listed in no particular order).
Here’s the Breakdown
Bagel Biz, Melville
A twist on the classic beauty with turkey AND bacon, plus fried eggs on an egg bagel. Double the eggs, double the meat, triple the love.
Bagel Boss, Multiple Locations
Sometimes, the bagel is so good, you don’t even need the bacon. This egg and cheese sandwich has double the cheese to highlight the crunch of this perfectly made bagel. They have six locations on the island, and one in Manhattan. If you’re taking the LIRR into the city for a trip, you can still get the taste of LI in the heart of the Big Apple.
Bagel Chalet, Commack
Nothing short of a Van Gogh masterpiece, Bagel Chalet in Commack offers rainbow BEC that serves as a feast for both the eyes and mouth.
Goldberg’s, Multiple Locations
A beautiful array of toasty bagels available at five locations across the island. Goldberg’s has been serving the locals of Long Island their staple carb-i-licios breakfast since 1949.
Fresh Fresh, Shirley
It’s all about the bacon. Freshy Fresh, named after a local rap artist, has the crispy, salty bacon you’re looking for on the morning after a long night out. With quick service and clean restrooms, what else can you ask for on a Sunday morning?
Strathmore, Multiple Locations
Try and BEAT the combination of bacon, egg, avocado and tomato. You can’t. It’s the classic crispy, crunchy, gooey BEC with an avocado and tomato twist. Extra veggies never hurt anyone.
Bagel Gallery, Smithtown
This beacon in the night is open 24 hours, to deliver greatness no matter what time it is. Previously located in Hauppauge right off of Veteran’s Highway, they’ve moved down the road right off of Route 111 in Smithtown.
Bagel Master, Syosset
The name says it all. From start to finish, Bagel Master has conquered the loving process of bagel-making. Perfect crunch on the outside with a soft middle, ideal for soaking up the runny egg yolks. Not to mention bacon. Never forget the bacon.
