Long Island welcomes the wildly-fun ‘Divas Half-Marathon’ back to Long Island Oct. 4th, 2015.
And it sounds like one fabulous event!
WEATHER UPDATE: Diva planners expect the race to go on as planned but check the website if the weather turns at www.runlikeadiva.com/Events/Long_Island__NY.htm or www.facebook.com/RUNLIKEADIVA?fref=ts.
“Diva stations” will be placed throughout the courses with DJs providing music and entertainment for runners, and a post-race dance party located at the finish line. Divas will receive special fit tech shirts, tutus, and boas and tiaras just before they cross the finish line. Bubbly will also be served in order to celebrate the occasion, and the city’s hunks will crown each finisher with a “blinged-out” tiara medal.
The weekend kicks off with a two day Health & Fitness Boutique, which offers a unique shopping experience for female runners. The fun continues on Sunday morning at Eisenhower Park, where participants will gather and prepare for either the 5K at 7:45 AM or half marathon at 8:05 AM.
Last year’s ‘Run like a Diva’ event featured approximately 4,000 registered ‘diva’ runners. The 5K sold out weeks prior and the Divas are looking forward to another great showing this fall in Long Island.
The Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau and Sports Commission worked with the organizers to bring the first Divas® Half Marathon & 5K Series event to Eisenhower Park. And the event has continued to grow every year.
“Long Island was the first of the Divas® Half Marathon & 5K Series races and it holds a dear place in my heart, says Robert Pozo, Executive Race Director. “Now going into the sixth year the race has only gotten bigger and stronger with the future being even brighter.”
“It’s been a total pleasure working with Long Island for a sixth year,” Pozo says. “The County Executive’s Office, Parks Department, Police, and CVB have worked together to further this partnership and dream that almost seven years ago I presented to Jennifer Rothman and together with her has grown to be such a huge success.”
This event is just one of many major sporting events the LICVB&SC has brought to Long Island this year. Some of the others include the Diva Half Marathon (coming Oct.4th), USA Synchronized Swimming US Open at the Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park; ECAC Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship at the Aquatic Center; and USA Lacrosse Women’s National Tournament at Stony Brook University, among others.
Last year the LICVB&SC brought in 22 sporting events (including the prestigious United Nations Inter-Agency Games) with a combined economic impact of over $6.7 million
