Beach Responsibly: Navigate Beach Rules & Regulations on Long Island

Our beaches will be open this summer and to help you beach responsibly we’ve compiled a guide to navigate your favorite sandy spots during these unprecedented times.  Please remember to follow CDC guidelines at all times including wearing a mask and keeping a safe social distance from other patrons.

State Parks Open to The Public

Jones Beach on Long Island


Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh: Open daily at 7 a.m. with lifeguards on duty. Realtime parking updates will be posted at, 516-785-1600.

Robert Moses State Park, Babylon: Open at 7 a.m. daily with lifeguards on duty. Parking updates will be posted on, 631-669-0449.

Gov. Alfred E. Smith/ Sunken Meadow State Park, Kings Park: Open sunrise to sunset with lifeguards on duty beginning Friday, May 22; 631-269-4333,

Heckscher State Park, East Islip: Open at 7 a.m. daily for the park set on the Great South Bay (no lifeguards), 631-581-2100,

Wildwood State Park, Wading River: Long Island Sound beach oopen daily, 631-929-4314,

Orient Beach State Park, Orient: Open daily, 631-323-2440.

Hither Hills State Park, Montauk Open with lifeguards on duty. 631-581-2100,

Sailor Haven/ Watch Hill, Fire Island Accessible by ferry from Sayville and Patchogue, the Fire Island National Seashore beaches are open to the public; 631-597-6183,

Nassau & Suffolk County Beaches

The following beaches are currently open to residents-only for the time being:

Eugene Nickerson Beach, Lido Beach (Nassau County): Open to Nassau County residents only. Lifeguards on duty 10am-6pm. Limited capacity allowed.

Smith Point County Park, Shirley and Cupsogue Beach County Park, Westhampton (Suffolk County): Open to Suffolk County residents only.
