National search underway to identify visionary leader to guide Long Island’s premier destination marketing organization into its next chapter

LONG ISLAND, NY  (March 19, 2026) -  Discover Long Island (DLI), the region’s only accredited destination marketing organization, today announces the official launch of its search for a new Chief Executive Officer & President. The nationwide search follows nearly one year of leadership under Interim CEO & President Mitch Pally, who stepped into the role after the departure of former CEO Kristen Reynolds.

Reynolds departed in 2025 to serve as CEO & President of Choose Chicago, Chicago’s official destination marketing organization, after leading Discover Long Island through a period of significant brand growth and evolution.

The Discover Long Island Board of Directors has formed a dedicated hiring committee to lead the search process. The Board is seeking a certified destination management executive to lead the organization in its efforts to position Suffolk County and the greater Long Island region as a world class, premier destination for both its residents and visitors alike. This committee will evaluate applicants and identify the top three candidates, who will then be invited to present before the full Board prior to a final selection.

The CEO & President will be responsible for leading the organization’s overall strategic direction, including marketing and sales initiatives, operational management, financial oversight, and government relations. Reporting directly to the DLI Board of Directors, the role serves as the primary spokesperson and advocate for Long Island’s tourism industry, working closely with stakeholders across Suffolk County and the greater Long Island region, as well as local, state, and federal partners.

Key priorities for the next leader include advancing Long Island’s presence in domestic and international markets, driving visitation through meetings, conventions, and major events, and leveraging data-driven marketing strategies to enhance the region’s competitiveness. The role will also oversee organizational operations, staff leadership, and budget management, while fostering collaboration across industry partners to maximize economic impact.

Under Mitch Pally’s Interim leadership, Discover Long Island has continued to advance critical initiatives, including global market expansion, major event promotion, and partnerships that support the region’s tourism economy. Interim CEO & President Mitch Pally will remain in his role during the search to ensure continuity and a seamless transition for the organization.
