FerriesLong Island is served by two year-round ferry lines that cross the Long Island Sound, connecting Port Jefferson to Bridgeport, Connecticut and Orient Point to New London, Connecticut. And if you want to visit the Long Island resort communities on Fire Island where no cars are allowed, the only way is to take one of the six passenger ferry routes. You can also travel between the North Fork and the South Fork of Long Island through Shelter Island, at Greenport or North Haven on a Long Island ferry.
