Robert Cushman Murphy County Park

Robert Cushman Murphy is a 2200 acre park which is part of the Peconic River Watershed. The best birding is off River Road near an old barn, fields and meadow. This is a good place to see bluebirds. Walk around the barn and in the fields to see birds you would expect on a farm; Barn and Tree Swallows, Northern Flicker, Chipping Sparrow, Eastern Phoebe, and Red-tailed Hawk. Across the Road is the boat launch access road on Swan Lake. At the far end of the access road is a foot path that leads to a marshy area, look of common snipe and American Coot. There are some interesting cranberry bogs are in the area, near the junction of River Road and Old River Road. The bogs run both north and south of this point. Directions. From Route 25 go south on Wading River Manorville Road, turn right on Swan Pond Road, turn right on River Road to the swan Pond boat ramp where there is parking Fees: None listed Comments: Call (631)854-4949 for information about any permit requirements
