Bayard Cutting Arboretum State Park is not a natural area, the tree planting was designed by Fredrick Law Olmstead, who later became famous for designing both New York's Central Park and Brooklyn's Prospect Park. Located on the Connetquot River it has 690 acres of lawns and open meadows, a wildflower garden, a marshy refuge, and many paths that make this park a good bird watching location. Waterfowl can be seen on the river along with an active Osprey nest. Directions: From Sunrise Highway take The Southern State Parkway to Heckscher Parkway. Leave the parkway at exit 45E Montauk Highway and follow the signs to the Arboretum. Fees: Vehicle use fee charged Season/hours: Open Tuesday through Sunday plus holidays. 10:00 AM to Sunset.
