Considered Nassau County's own " Central Park," the massive, 930 acre Eisenhower park firs earned its perpetual reputation as a golfers' refuge during the 1920's.
Originally, the park was the home to the Salisbury Country Club, a golf course and clubhouse that catered to Nassau County's wealthy and prestigious crowd. After several changes of ownership, Nassau County acquired the property during the Great Depression of the 1930's. After more land acquisitions following World War ll, the County re named it Salisbury Park and then Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Park in honor of the late president.
Today Eisenhower Park is a mecca for sporting events and leisurely fun. Even senior citizens benefit, as the park features a special activities center at parking field #8 and outdoor games at parking field #1 just for adults ages 60 and over. Many enjoy horseshoes, lawn bowling and boccie games, and table provide sanctuary for card players.
