Port Jefferson Documentary Series

Port Jefferson Documentary Series
Runs during: Spring and fall
Locations: Theater Three and Stony Brook University
Sponsored by the Greater Port Jefferson Arts Council and supported by NYS and Suffolk County, the Port Jefferson Documentary Series showcases new, critically-acclaimed documentaries followed by a Q&A with the director, star or expert. All screenings begin at 7pm, $5 tickets are sold at the door. The Greater Port Jefferson-Northern Brookhaven Arts Council’s mission is to support artistic activity in the Northern Brookhaven area embodying music, film, theater, literature, dance and visual arts and all educational and cultural endeavors as they relate to the arts. This mission is accomplished by coordinating efforts with arts organizations, artists, local municipalities, schools, art galleries, libraries, theaters and other such organizations within the community that share our common goal.

Fire Island Golden Wagon Film Festival

Location: Ocean Beach, Fire Island
The mission of the Golden Wagon Film Festival is to provide a cultural and entertaining event for the Fire Island community while recognizing and honoring independent filmmakers who inspire through artistic expression. While honoring the creative talents of these filmmakers, the Festival will also pay tribute to an established artist of film and television who has a sincere connection and love for Fire Island. The Golden Wagon Film Festival provides an open-air venue for filmmakers to screen their works while offering activities to the
public that will enhance the quality of entertainment for this island community.

Hamptons Black International Film Festival
Runs during: September
Locations: Sag Harbor, Montauk
The Hamptons Black International Film Festival promises an eclectic mix, from short films to documentaries to features that showcase African and African-American writers, producers, directors, and actors. The festival screens films at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor and the Montauk Movie Theater. An additional program, Cinema on the Beach, is held at Gurney’s Inn and the Last Hope Lagoon in Montauk.

Long Island Film Festival

The Long Island Film Festival is an annual Island-wide competitive film festival staging public screenings and championing the creative, visionary and storytelling talents of both professional and student filmmakers from both America and abroad. It is the longest running film festival on Long Island.

Hamptons Take 2 Festival
Runs during: November
Locations: Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, West Hampton Beach, NY & Bay Street Theatre, Sag Harbor, NY
Film festival showcasing documentary films from local Suffolk County film makers. The impetus for the Take 2 Film Festival is to create a high-visibility venue for talented local documentary filmmakers whose works deserve screen time, a second cut or ‘take 2’ as they say in the movie making business.

East End Black Film Festival

The African-American Museum of the East End hosts the East End Black Film Festival at the Parrish Art Museum, Southampton Cultural Center and Guild Hall. The line-up of feature films and short documentaries presents works that express the beauty of diversity of African American culture. Cinema Arts Centre
Runs during: All year
Location: Huntington
Known as “Long Island’s Film Window on the World” the cinema has been at or near the center of life on Long Island for all its thirty years. It is known for discussions with prestigious guests who accompany screenings of their films, including Isabella Rosellini, Wim Wenders, Hal Hartley and many more. First-run independent films are always featured, but the other screens (and videos) feature African film festivals, leftist documentaries, and off-beat experiments by unknowns. Dylan Skolnick, son of the cinema founders, runs a cinema-within-a-cinema with his long-running series of horror flicks.
