Suffolk County, NY  has so much to offer, you’ll want to kick your shoes off and stay awhile.

One of the two counties that make up Long Island, Suffolk County is the easternmost county and is somewhat more rural than its western counterpart: Nassau County.

Take a scenic drive along the North Shore, where the winding roads take you through time and history, past quaint villages and bluff-side beaches. Visit Gold Coast mansions, an outstanding marine life exhibit and a planetarium all in one at the Vanderbilt Museum. Visit the home of poet Jupiter Hammon at the Joseph Lloyd Manor House, or the Walt Whitman Historic Site at the birthplace of famed poet Walt Whitman. Visit the Museum of American Art, History and Carriages at Stony Brook, or see the working Stony Brook Grist Mill c.1751.

  

Or step out to the Suffolk County beaches along Fire Island National Seashore, at Suffolk’s South Shore, accessible by bridge or ferry. Climb to the top and enjoy the view at the Fire Island Lighthouse. All along the South Shore, charming villages feature great Suffolk County restaurants and shopping.

Suffolk holds plenty of action for Long Island kids and families, and boasts one of the top-rated water parks in the country, Splish Splash. Nearby Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center is a world-class facility in downtown Riverhead, featuring everything from sharks to penguins.

Over two dozen wineries grace the scenic east end portion of the Island. Head out to Greenport. Go to the exclusive Hamptons on the South Fork, where movie stars, sand and surf, upscale Suffolk County restaurants and shopping are the everyday norm.

Suffolk County in Long Island, NY is home to two of the Top Ten Beaches in the country. Long Island’s Cooper’s Beach in Southampton and Main Beach in East Hampton are two Suffolk County beaches named on Dr. Stephen Leatherman’s (AKA Dr. Beach) Top Ten Beaches” listing. In fact Cooper's Beach was named the Top Beach in the Country on the 2010 list.
